Gartner identifies the top technology trends shaping the higher education industry in 2021, highlighting the impact on IT organizations. Higher education CIOs should weigh their recommendations in light of these trends as they shape their IT strategy and priorities.

The Gartner research “Top Technology Trends Impacting Higher Education in 2021” focuses on the technology trends shaping higher education globally. Trends, such as the move to the cloud, will have a broad impact on higher education. Other trends, such as faculty information systems, may be more circumscribed in their reach. Many of the trends in the 2021 list are new, representing a break from 2020. This is hardly surprising given the tumultuous events of 2020 and the challenges and change to which they gave rise.
